Biography

The Department of Public Works (DPW) provides professional quality maintenance, repair and construction services while maintaining streets, sidewalks, parks and playgrounds, public squares and Garden Cemetery. The DPW is also responsible for the ongoing maintenance of municipal buildings, water mains, sewer mains, the Carter Street drain pumping station, nearly 90 vehicles and pieces of equipment, and the municipal fire alarm system.

The DPW also oversees the City’s trash collection and disposal services, including curbside recycling, and is responsible for rapid response to all snow, ice and other inclement weather emergencies and conditions.

Biography

Residents of Chelsea and Revere can apply in-person at the Chelsea DTA office. Office Hours: 7:00 AM-5:00 PM. There is a “SNAP room” where people can apply without an appointment. Residents of any town can apply for SNAP over the phone with assistance from the FoodSource Hotline, 1-800-645 8333. Interpreting services are provided.

Biography

Our community immigrant organization in Boston, MA, promotes the advancement of Latino immigrants of all ages. We do this by way of education, services, advocacy, community organization, and leadership development. Many of our staff members are bilingual and immigrants themselves. They’re well-equipped to improve the lives of others. Through their participation in our immigrant community programs, newcomers create support groups and acquire skills and information to achieve their goals. In addition, immigrants participate in collective action to improve the quality of life in East Boston as well as the advancement of immigrant rights at the local, state, and national levels. These programs are funded by fees, government contracts, individual contributions, grants from corporations and foundations, and support from the United Way of Massachusetts Bay.

If pregnant or you have a child under 5, healthy foods, referrals to programs and more are available. Insurance is not required.

The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program provides nutrition and breastfeeding counseling, healthy food benefits on an electronic card and other local resources to income eligible prenatal/post-partum women, infants and children up to age five. Offer free breastfeeding education classes facilitated by a certified lactation counselor. Fathers, guardians and foster parents are also welcome to apply for WIC services for children in their care. The Program helps measure the growth of your baby and children to helps them stay healthy.

North Suffolk’s Harbor Area Early Intervention (EI) program services the communities of East Boston, Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop and the Boston neighborhood of Charlestown.  Harbor Area Early Childhood Services offers developmental therapies to children aged birth to three years in the context of family education, training and support. The program philosophy holds that parents are experts and primary teachers of their children.  Early Intervention services are provided to infants and toddlers presenting with developmental delay or who have risk of delay due to environmental, medical and/or biological factors. Home-based services as part of an Individualized Family Service Plan and playgroups for community children are available.
