The Soldiers’ Home in Chelsea is a multifaceted health care facility available to eligible veterans of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Soldiers’ Home is inspected annually by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Department of Public Health.

The Chelsea Soldiers’ Home is a state-funded, fully accredited health care complex that offers veterans quality care, full-time residential accommodations and multi-service out-patient department. The tradition of service to our nation’s veterans is surpassed only by our continuing commitment to excellence in care for those who are in need now and in the future.

If desired, you may request a tour of the facility. To schedule a tour of the long term care units, please call our Social Workers, Josh Garon, LICSW or Scott Baker, LICSW at (617) 884-5660. It is the mission of Chelsea Youth Basketball League (CYBL) to provide and promote a safe, recreational basketball program for our youth of Chelsea. To this end, CYBL encourages good sportsmanship, developing strong playing skills, and promoting friendly relationships among the players, coaches, referees and parents.

For over twenty years Chelsea Youth Basketball League has been providing an excellent opportunity for boys and girls to learn about and enjoy the wonderful game of basketball. Over the years, the league has continued to grow and now serves between 250 – 300 boys and girls, ranging in ages from 5-14. The league strives to maintain as its primary goal, to provide a fun, safe, recreational environment to play basketball.

Child Care Choices of Boston (CCCB) serves as the Child Care Resource and Referral Agency for Boston, Brookline, Chelsea, Cambridge, Revere, Somerville and Winthrop. CCCB plays a key role in making child care work for everyone by providing support, resources, technical assistance and training to a diverse community of families, child care providers, employers and businesses in the greater Boston area. Each year, CCCB provides more than 6,000 low-income families with voucher management services that enable access to much needed child care.

The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to invest in the social capitol of the community by assisting residents in achieving self-sufficiency and quality in their lives through the delivery and coordination of services. HHS oversees the Divisions of the Library, Elder Affairs, Health, Workforce Development, Veterans Affairs, and Community Schools and Recreation. HHS staffs the following boards: Board of Health, Council on Elder Affairs, Library Trustees, Community Schools Advisory Board, Chelsea Human Rights Commission, and Weed and Seed Steering Committee. The Administration of HHS assists residents who come to City Hall seeking help after they have exhausted all other options. These have included individuals who are homeless, disabled, hungry and in need of work. Staff have spent hundreds of hours collectively in trying to locate housing, food, clothing, medical care, shelter, legal advocacy, jobs and other emergency constituent needs.

The Center provides child care for children ages eight weeks to six years. Voucher slots are available. Open to children with disabilities. Biography

Head Start is a federally funded comprehensive child and family development program serving low income families with children between the ages of three to five (3-5) years old. Head Start has been operating a successful early childhood program since its inception in 1965. Our centers are licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care. Most classrooms are in session four (4) hours per day. Full day classes are also available for working families who meet income criteria and who have a voucher. Families whose income exceeds the guidelines may participate if there are special circumstances (e.g. a child with special needs or particular family situations that could be taken into consideration). Special needs children are welcome and integrated into our regular classrooms. Head Start offers parents an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities that may lead to employment and family self-sufficiency. Family Advocates work closely with each family to provide support, information, referrals and help parents feel more connected to their classroom and community. Courses and workshops are provided regularly.

Conducts enhanced, comprehensive street outreach in Chelsea to identify and refer persons experiencing alcohol/opioid addiction for services. Most of these individuals are homeless and living on the streets; blankets, food, basic needs, and medical supplies are kept on the bus and are available for immediate distribution. CAPIC has partnered with MGH and there is a doctor who is an active member of the Mobile Outreach Team. The Mobile Outreach Team is also working closely with the Chelsea Police Department, North Suffolk Mental Health Association and the Chelsea Community Health Navigators.
