Boston University/Chelsea Public Schools – Intergenerational Literacy Project at the Early Learning Center
Biography
Supporting families in working with their children, both to attain the instructional objectives of the schools and to reinforce positive attitudes toward education. To accomplish the larger goal, two sub-goals and objectives have been outlined: to improve the literacy skills of participating adults and to improve literacy knowledge among preschool and school-aged children. The core programming is ESOL family literacy. The program offers 4 ESOL family literacy classes. It also offers children’s educational classes to 80 children so that parents are able to attend class. In the morning and evening, they serve children ages 6 months to 5 years. In the evening and during school vacations, they also offer classes for school-aged children.

All allied health certificate programs, including medical assistant, patient care technician, central processing, surgical technology, pharmacy technician, paramedic studies and emergency medical technician (EMT) are based in Chelsea. The Chelsea Campus offers laboratory science in biology, offering multiple sections of Human Biology and Anatomy & Physiology I and II. Chelsea also houses a full array of foundation and elective courses leading to college degrees and certificates. Chelsea is also home to the College’s Adult Basic Education (ABE) program which offers GED Spanish and Basic English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) classes.

Biography
The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assist participant with the postsecondary application process. Talent Search also encourages persons who have not completed education programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.

Chelsea Collaborative – Chelsea Summer Youth Employment Initiative
Biography
The Chelsea Summer Youth Employment Initiative was created to reduce and ultimately eliminate youth violence. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Latino leaders were meeting at Chelsea City Hall organized by the Collaborative’s Latino Coalition to address concerns with an increase in youth and gang violence. That summer a young person lost his life due to gang violence. Latino and other leaders saw that life as one too many lost to street violence. That morning, symbolic for many reasons, will stand for the Collaborative as the birth of the extremely popular and successful Summer Youth Employment Initiative (SYEI). Years later, the SYEI has hired hundreds of youth and kept them off the streets all while learning valuable employment skills.

Chelsea High School – Expectant & Parenting Student Program
Biography
This program is a collaboration between the school-based nurse practitioner and the expectant and parenting student liaison. When the NP identifies a pregnant or parenting student, the student receives support to explore their academic path, participate in a monthly parenting group, as well as connections to school social workers, and social service referrals. Healthcare, social services, academic, and civic engagement services are offered in the program.

Biography
TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services arograms designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-Income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs. TRIO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRIO projects.
