Ryan Barry came to Healthy Chelsea upon completion of his Masters of Public Health from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and has been working as a Regional Coordinator of the Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative grant ever since. As the Regional Coordinator, he works with the cities of Chelsea, Revere, Saugus and Winthrop on youth substance use prevention efforts to combat underage drinking, marijuana misuse and vaping. He works with community stakeholders and peer led youth groups of the four cluster communities to research, analyze and apply practices that work best with each city and town.
Before coming to Healthy Chelsea, he was a graduate assistant teaching undergraduate courses on public health practices. Prior to that, he held internship positions with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Massachusetts Medical Society and the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, working on different initiatives in health policy, community health, and prevention. When he’s not eradicating the world’s challenges on the clock, he’s yelling at the TV over NFL refereeing, studying stand-up comedy to eventually write the perfect set or scaring his dog by playing his trumpet. He is passionate about helping others and promoting equity, Boston sports teams, and doesn’t understand why people enjoy Adele.
