Chelsea Kiwanis Diaper Drive

It’s not fun to think about!
Have you ever tried to wash out a used disposable diaper to try to dry it and use it again?  Diapers–and cleaning products–are not allowable purchases via SNAP and WIC programs.  The same goes for all kinds of necessities for infants, so it puts many mothers between a rock and a hard place when it comes to trying to keep their babies clean, healthy, and comfortable.  It is especially daunting for young mothers who are trying to finish high school.

 

Drop-Off Event, Saturday, February 24th, 12 p.m.-2p.m.
That is why the Chelsea Kiwanis Club has partnered with Chelsea High School’s program for young and expecting student parents to help donate all kinds of items needed by babies and mothers:  diapers, bottles, pacifiers, blankets, etc.  On Saturday, February 24th, you can drop off diapers and other items at the parking lot at El Potro Mexican Grill, 170 Everett Avenue in Chelsea.  From noon until 2 p.m., Chelsea Kiwanis members will be at El Potro in the Market Basket shopping center to receive your generous donations.  Or, if you prefer, you can make a tax-deductible financial donation online via our Chelsea Kiwanis Children’s Charity Fund and we’ll do the shopping for you.  Either way, we thank you for your support of these young families.

Women’s Wellness Workshop – Domestic Violence Community Education Feb 21

We are excited to offer a Domestic Violence Community Education Workshop for women on Wednesday February 21 –  at the Early Learning Center , in partnership with HarborCOV and Intergenerational Literacy Program –
Two sessions
1. 12:00-2:30pm (English w/ Spanish translation)
2. 5:30pm-8:00pm (Spanish only)
We ask that participants attend only ONE session as  there is space for only 50 each session.
Light meal & child care provided, this will be at the Early Learning Center.

Apply to Summer Stars Camp for the Performing Arts!

Summer Stars Camp for the Performing Arts provides deserving middle and high-school-aged kids a free 9-day, residential summer camp intensive in the performing arts.  Our 25th Anniversary Year Camp takes place August 4-12, 2024 on the campus of the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Gill, MA. 

Summer Stars offers small group programs in acting, musical theater and choral singing, dance– from hip-hop to theatrical, instrumental performance, set design, juggling, puppets, drumming, music video creation and so much more. Through our work together, campers come together as an artistic community and learn about their own ability to succeed through the performing arts.​

The ideal candidate is a student who interested in the performing arts but who may not have the opportunities to fully explore and develop their talent due to financial need or lack of community resources. There is no audition, and experience in the performing arts is not required. 

Camp is free to all campers. The Summer Stars Foundation is a 501-c3 and fully funded by donations. There is no charge for camp– the entire program is FREE including meals & lodging and bus transportation from the Boston and New York metro areas (and select other locations, like some local military bases.)

How to Apply​

  • To attend Summer Stars as a Camper, you must be between 12 and 15 years old as of August 4, 2024. Please note: Only an adult can create an account.

  • New Camper applications must include one reference from a teacher or guidance councilor. If you are a new camper, please share the recommendation form link with your teacher or guidance councilor as soon as possible​

  • To Join the Leadership Training Program as a Leadership Trainee or Junior Counselor, you must be a 16-17 year-old (as of August 4, 2024) who has attended Summer Stars as a camper in the past, and been in High School during the 2023-24 academic year.​​​
