Menorah Lighting & Public Art
Sunday, November 28, 2021
6 pm to 8 pm
Chelsea Square
The annual Hanukkah-themed celebration in Chelsea Square is expanding this year. On Second Street there will be an illuminated mobile art display called “Brighter Revealed.” Artists Tova Speter and Emily Bhargava focused on sharing the light and vibrancy we each have to offer. Commissioned by JArts Boston and incorporating artwork created by students and local partners throughout the Greater Boston area, this large-scale beacon reveals the inner strength and bright spirit contained within our community. The celebration of Hanukkah centers around sharing the miracle of light amidst darkness and the triumph of freedom prevailing over persecution. By bringing communities together to create art and by publicly showcasing their collaborative work, the work seeks to not only highlight the past miracle of Hanukkah, but also to reveal and acknowledge the present-day miracles, inspiration, and collective strength found in our Boston community.
At 6:30 gather with members of Tobin Bridge Chabad, Temple Emmanuel and Walnut St Synagogue for the lighting of the public menorah with song, prayer and refreshments.

Play Street Pilot on Walnut Street
Monday, December 6, 2021
2:30 to 4:30 pm
Walnut Street beside the Williams School
Play Streets are sometimes called Peatoniños (aggregation of the Spanish words for pedestrian + child). They’ve been hosted in cities for more than 100 years and all around the world.
Well more than half of the land in Chelsea is devoted to roadways. In cities like Chelsea with limited open space and lots of people, play streets are a way to reclaim, if only in a temporary way, some of this space for kids to engage in active play.
For the past several months a team of graduate students at UMass Boston, informed by a group of middle school students meeting at the Williams School, have been designing and planning a one day pilot of what a play street might look like in Chelsea. They’re trying out their ideas in this one afternoon event.
This effort is part of a project to revisit how the City of Chelsea regulates the use of public spaces for people-oriented, community uses.

North Suffolk Public Health Collaborative Community Health Assessment Survey
The North Suffolk Public Health Collaborative (NSPHC) is conducting a Community Health Assessment to explore the community health strengths and challenges that matter most to people in our communities – Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop.
The purpose of this survey is to hear directly from community members like you. The results of this survey will be analyzed and shared back with the community, and will help NSPHC, our partner organizations, and community members to take action to positively change the factors that influence people’s health.
