MBTA Continuing to Add Services Back This Fall

This fall, we’re continuing to add back service across the system to support increased travel across the region.

We are implementing service changes to:

  • Continue to preserve access and quality of service for transit critical communities;
  • Provide sufficient service for returning riders and increased travel;
  • Accommodate riders who are returning to in-person school or work;
  • Support new travel patterns and behaviors.

Subway and Bus service changes will be effective on August 29, 2021, and schedules will be posted in mid-August.

To share more information about these service changes, we will be holding a public meeting about the Fall 2021 service changes on August 5, 2021 at 6:00pm. You can register for the meeting here.

For more information about the Fall Service Changes, please visit: www.mbta.com/servicechanges.

La Colaborativa’s New Mercado is Now Open!

Food donations at La Colaborativa have a whole new look these days.
The Mercado is a brand new effort by La Colaborativa that goes beyond just keeping the community fed. Thanks to the building skills of Alejandro (one of our beloved staff), there are now cheerful, colorful carts filled to the brim with fresh fruits, vegetables and other food twice a week.
On Tuesdays from 2:00pm – 6:00pm and Thursdays from 2:00pm – 7:00pm (or until the food is gone), community members can collect whatever they need from the market, which leads to less food waste, and (most importantly) to each individual having the sovereignty to choose the items they want. This is what building up our community looks like.

At the new market, area residents can also take a box of goods provided from the Greater Boston Food Bank, and then go on to add additional produce. Instead of building boxes from scratch, La Colaborativa staff are on hand to help bag up people’s selections and ensure everyone gets what they need.
For those who cannot make it during open market hours, we are excited to send out our new truck on select Saturdays to continue the food distribution (follow us on Facebook for exact weekly location of the truck). A huge THANK YOU to the Greater Boston Food Bank and the state of Massachusetts for their generous donations used to purchase the new food truck. It will enable us to reach so many more people in our community.
And a huge THANK YOU to you for your continued donations as they help to make this work possible!

200 Youth Hired for Coveted
La Colaborativa Intern Positions
It’s that time of year again. Every Summer, La Colaborativa works with the City of Chelsea to hire youth for coveted internship jobs. This year, 200 young people from ages 14-21 were hired, with the goal of connecting them to relevant career pathways and professions based on their interests.
As a way of supporting La Colaborativa’s long-term mission of promoting diversity in historically underrepresented fields and professions, we collaborate with 40+ local worksite community partners in the areas of STEM, Business, Public Policy, Public Health, Sports and Fitness, Education and Art.
Since the summer of 2002, La Colaborativa has successfully connected thousands of youth in Chelsea to early work experiences, helping them build solid career pathways. This internship program is something the whole community is proud to be a part of.

“I am part of the youth intern program and it changed so much in my life,” said Daniela, a repeat summer intern. “I was able to help my family during the pandemic with the phone and other house bills, thanks to this program. I am in a small Entrepreneur group where we discuss business and manufacturing. I would like to work as a business administrator someday. That has always been a dream of mine.
What I hope beyond this summer is to continue working with La Colaborativa because they inspire me so much to help youth to experience jobs (instead of having to do bad things in the streets) so they can have a bright future.”
The La Colaborativa community is thrilled to continue this internship program year after year. And, your continued support helps make this all possible!
