  • The Division seeks a Community Health Educator to be a thought partner for and key contributor to its professional and community-based capacity building and public health initiatives. This individual will work with an interdisciplinary team of Harvard Medical School faculty and research associates to help build a culture of commitment to health and health equity in the region:-Conduct in-person and multi-media trainings for health providers and community groups in New England (primarily Massachusetts and New Hampshire) -Contribute to the development of grant proposals for capacity building and outreach activities -Work with capacity building specialists at the Division to create and execute a long term term plan to expand the Division’s capacity building activities for special projects, including but not limited to: The Brief Addiction Science Information Source (BASIS), Gambling Disorder Screening Day, Expressions of Addiction, Toward Evidence-based Action and Community Health (TEACH), and CHARGE (Cambridge Health Alliance Readiness for Gambling Expansion) -Create and implement new outreach initiatives -Work with capacity building specialists at the Division to create and execute long-term plans to increase awareness of addiction-related public health issues in Massachusetts and New Hampshire -Work with capacity building specialists at the Division to develop a state-wide coalition of organizations representing a continuum of addiction-related services in Mass. and NH -Event planning, design, and production -Host webinars and trainings (digital and face-to-face) -Project administration in collaboration with Division administrative staff -Write research summaries for The Brief Addiction Science Information Source (The BASIS) research blog

    This job requires up to 50% travel (Mass. and NH). A driver’s license and access to a vehicle on a consistent basis is required as some work sites are not accessible via public transportation.-Strong background in public health -Experience and interest in health equity and discrimination preferred -Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and proven ability to function independently -Must have an understanding of research -Strong interest in evidence-based public health outreach, healthy equity and discrimination, in general, and addiction-related evidence-based public health outreach, specifically -Bilingual (Spanish) preferred -Creativity and experience with graphic design a plus -Outstanding verbal and written communication skills required; public speaking and presentation experience -Excellent organization skills a must -Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite required -Proficiency in html code and website design a plus

The Opportunity

The Phoenix Charter Academy in Chelsea is launching a new library as part of the Class of 2020 Community Improvement Project. The space will be modern, dynamic and ready to support the work that is happening in the classrooms. We are seeking volunteers who will maintain the library and provide excellent service to students and staff. This volunteer opportunity will run from August 3, 2020 through June 25, 2021. Volunteers will work a minimum of 8 hours per week, but no more than 15 hours per week.

Responsibilities

-Implement new check out procedures

-Assist with tagging, sorting, shelvin, cataloging and organizing books

-Assist with assigned research projects

-Track circulation to develop the collection

-Clean books, electronics, reading areas and other items

-Assist library staff with preparing for special programs

-Assist staff with creating and taking down bulletin boards

Standard Functions

-Records volunteer hours electronically

-Maintains a positive, friendly and cooperative attitude and provides consistent customer service

-Maintains student confidentiality and privacy

-Upholds all school policies and procedures of the Phoenix Charter Academy Network

-Performs other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

-Must be at least 18 years of age

-Must successfully complete a background check (CORI)

-Should be self-motivated and quickly adapt to new assignments

-Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing 

-Knowledge of alphabetical and numerical systems 

-Ability to learn to operate relevant computer systems and office machines

-Ability to work independently and dependably to complete routine tasks

POSITION SUMMARY
As a function of the City’s strategic housing plan, the housing coordinator will assist with various facets
of housing and community preservation through planning and coordinating directives related to housing
enhancement, preservation, and creation. The purpose of this position is to perform responsible
professional and administrative work in support of the City’s the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and the
Community Preservation Committee. The Housing Coordinator directly coordinates the implementation of
programs under the purview of these boards and assists the Department of Planning and Development
with carrying out the City’s housing agenda. Position coordinates efforts to responsively meet
professional, administrative, and technical needs in an inclusive and collaborative manner. The position is
responsible for the effective and timely completion of assigned responsibilities to ensure project
completion, quality, and integrity. This position is funded through the Community Preservation
Committee and Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS/BA degree preferred in the area of planning, policy, public administration, or a related field. Two
years’ experience in responsible position related to municipal government, housing, planning and
development, community development, and/or project management.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Negotiation, problem resolution, and interpersonal skills demonstrated through similar experience. Very
good communications skills. Ability to effectively engage and interact with general citizenry and a
diverse range of stakeholders. Working knowledge of city and housing planning principles and practices.
Working knowledge of the functions of municipal government, local bylaws, rules and regulations.
Knowledge of the roles of the Community Preservation Act and Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Ability
to communicate clearly and accurately, including ability to communicate complex information in a simple
fashion. Ability to interact with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Aptitude for an attention to
details, organization, and accuracy. Must be ambulatory and have transportation for any site activity
requirements. Bilingual (English and Spanish) helpful.
