DISTRICT UPDATES
Chelsea Public Schools recognized the anniversary of September 11th today.  Dr. Abeyta shared this message with staff:

Over the last 20 years, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 annually offers us an opportunity to reflect and participate in patriotic ceremonies in memory of those we lost. It also creates a moment for us to come together in unison to honor the servicemen and women as well as the first responders who protected our freedom 20 years ago, and continue to do so today. Whether it’s through moments of silence, peaceful reflections, or other patriotic methods, I encourage all of us to remember those we lost 20 years ago, our Massachusetts Military Heroes, the 13 service members killed recently in Afghanistan and all those who presently serve in the armed forces. Moments like today bring us together as a community and strengthen our bonds as we collectively appreciate the sacrifices made by our military members and first responders. Thank you for uniting our school community in acts of remembrance and hope.

At the Kelly School we are so happy to be ALL together again!
Staff and students have been getting to know each other by name, strength, and story — including with a word search to find the names of all the 3rd graders in Ms. Johnson’s class!

Sra. Berganza introduced herself “por los números / by the numbers” to help her students learn some of her story… and here Ms. Perez helps a 2nd grader do her own “by the numbers”

Kids have also dived into reading, exploring our wonderful new class libraries for high-interest topics (like a book on platypuses!).

Ms. Culkin’s 3rd graders are thinking about how — just like a pair of shoes! — we choose a book for a particular purpose, interest, and “fit.”

Please join us for a 2021 Virtual Event!

The Taste of Chelsea will be virtual again this year as we continue taking a cautious approach in light of the health impacts our community has experienced and as we wait to see what the potential is for any additional pandemic concerns in the fall.

The pandemic’s impact was severe on our communities, especially on survivors’ isolation, stress, financial instability and even fewer options for safety. Over the last year, HarborCOV has provided financial assistance for a range of pandemic-related costs like hotels, housing, food, medication and technology for hundreds of families to keep them as safe, healthy and connected as possible. Our local restaurants, which have so generously donated their food, staff time and operational costs to the Taste of Chelsea over the last 18 years, are also still working hard for their own survival and recovery from the pandemic.

Co-hosted by HarborCOV and the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, the highly visible and popular Taste of Chelsea has traditionally brought together corporate sponsors, local businesses, area food and beverage vendors, volunteers, survivors and more than 500 ticket holders who turn out to show their commitment to the cause along the Chelsea waterfront. We know the 18th annual Taste of Chelsea will continue to capture the event’s traditional spirit of community action.

This year’s virtual Taste of Chelsea will encourage people to order takeout or delivery from a list of participating restaurants and virtually share a meal together while hearing local survivor stories, acknowledging the conscientious sponsors helping support recovery from abuse and learning more about the continuing impact of the pandemic on our communities.  We hope you’ll continue your sponsorship and remain part of the community solution to end domestic violence. Your sponsorship has directly benefited local survivors and made a significant difference in their lives while also sending a powerful community-awareness message.

New Outdoor Gallery by Local Artist Franz Israel at Carter Park CrossFit
A new and innovative mural has been installed on Blossom & Carter St in Chelsea. Local artist, Franz Israel, designed and painted a mural of 50 feet long x 15 high: 8 large animal characters from the series “Animalia” are featured on black background with a scattering of white geometric figures. The mural features motion sensor lights for evening interactivity, and each piece is printed in reflective aluminum and fluorescent glow in the dark paint, creating a mesmerizing effect at night.
Each character has a unique QR code that takes you to a unique custom morph animated video accompanied by a relaxing audio experience and some advocating for animals. Learn more about Franz Israel and his process on www.Franzisrael.com.
